Why people look past the launch

Playground is Google's experimental gaming platform, announced on 7 October 2026. You describe a game, test it in the browser, then keep it private, send a link, or publish it to the Explore gallery. That is a real shift: prompt-to-playable is no longer a niche demo.

People still look for another option when the launch does not cover them, or when they want a specific kind of game. The launch post is for users in the U.S. who are 18 or older, at playground.google, with creation access tiered by a Google AI subscription. It also describes starter prompts you remix — not a catalog of casual mobile loops. If you already know you want a match-3, a parking jam or a tower defense, a template with that loop is a different starting point than a blank prompt.

What Google Playground does well

This is Google's own description of the product, from the launch post. It is a strong fit for open experimentation.

  • A prompt becomes something you can play

No coding. You type the game, then test it immediately in the browser, on a phone or a laptop.

  • The conversation keeps going

Google says you can ask to change the physics, rewrite the rules, customize the characters or overhaul the environment.

  • A community, not only a file

The Explore gallery, ratings, play activity, Play Games profiles, follows, leaderboards, and multiplayer in select genres. You can also keep a game private or share one link.

  • Room to go deeper later

Unity Spark is the announced path to professional mechanics and high-fidelity 3D. Google says it is in testing, with a closed beta coming soon — so it is a direction, not a feature you can use today.

What Evonx does differently

Evonx is built around game creation rather than a general prompt box. Name a casual loop and generation starts from that template: match-3, parking jam, tower defense, survivor arena, and 25 more on /games/templates. You play the build in a live preview while it is still yours to change.

The edit is another sentence. A recorded example is the same match-3 before and after "make it candy-themed" — mechanics stay, the world changes. Art and 3D characters come from /product/asset-studio, including the orc warlord in the clips below. The project is TypeScript + Phaser in your account.

Building, editing and playing in the live preview are free on the Starter plan with no credit card. Publishing a shareable link is on Plus ($20/month) and Pro ($99/month). Evonx games are web games: a published game opens in mobile and desktop browsers. Evonx does not package games for the App Store or Google Play.

How creation actually feels

On Playground you start from a blank canvas, a starter prompt, or guided support. You stay in the chat, test, and decide whether the game stays private, goes out as a link, or joins the gallery. The creative direction is yours from the first sentence. What you do not get from the launch post is a promise that the first build already knows how a parking jam or a match-3 is supposed to feel.

On Evonx the genre picks the loop. "A parking jam where I tap the cars out of a crowded lot" starts from the parking jam template. "A match-3 in a royal castle" starts from match-3. You then change rules, levels and art in chat, and you can reskin the whole game in one line. That is faster when you want a known mobile loop, and less open-ended when you want a game nobody has a template for.

Real Evonx gameplay

These are screen recordings of games made in Evonx, with the prompt that started them. They are not Playground games.

  • Parking jam gameplay: cars are tapped one by one and drive out of a crowded parking lot. Made in Evonx from one sentence.

    Parking Jam

“A parking jam game where I tap the cars out of the lot”

  • Match-3 gameplay: a medieval-themed match-3 board with cascading combos. Made in Evonx from one sentence.

    Royal Match-3

“A match-3 game set in a royal medieval castle”

  • Match-3 · reskin gameplay: the same match-3 game reskinned with candy pieces, including a striped-candy line blast. Made in Evonx from one sentence.

    Candy Match-3

    “Make it candy-themed”

  • Survivor arena gameplay: a survivor-style shooter against a zombie horde, with a level-up card offering three skills. Made in Evonx from one sentence.

    Zombie Horde

“A zombie survival shooter where I pick a new skill every level”

Gameplay templates you can open

Evonx ships 29 templates. These four are the casual loops people usually mean when they compare AI game makers. Playground's launch post does not name them.

  • Match-3

Swaps, cascades, boosters and level goals. The candy clip is a reskin of the castle one.

  • Parking jam

Tap cars out of a packed lot in the right order.

  • Tower defense

Place towers, upgrade them, survive the waves.

  • Survivor arena

Automatic attacks, a growing horde, a skill pick on each level-up.

  • All 29 templates

Puzzle, arcade, action and simulation loops in one index.

Assets, characters and later edits

Playground's post treats characters and the environment as things you change by asking. That is chat editing of the game you just made. It does not describe a separate studio for sprites, UI and 3D characters, and it does not describe a one-line reskin that keeps the mechanics.

Evonx generates those assets with the game through /product/asset-studio, then lets you keep editing in chat. The orc boss clip is a 3D character from a sentence, inside a top-down shooter — not a high-fidelity 3D world. Unity Spark is Google's stated answer for that class of 3D, and it is not available yet.

Community, publishing, access and price

Playground is unusually strong on the social side for a brand-new tool: a public gallery, ratings, follows, leaderboards, and multiplayer in select genres. Evonx games can have player accounts, cloud saves and leaderboards. Evonx has no online multiplayer, and it does not have a public gallery of other people's games on the marketing site. Sharing is a link you publish.

Google's launch post says Playground launches for users in the U.S. who are 18 or older, at playground.google. Creation access is tiered by Google AI subscription. The launch post says creation access is tiered by Google AI subscription. It does not publish dollar prices or weekly token counts. Do not invent them. Evonx does not publish a country or age list on this page. Building, editing and playing in the live preview are free on the Starter plan with no credit card. Publishing a shareable link is on Plus ($20/month) and Pro ($99/month). See /pricing for the live grid.

Limitations, on both sides

  • When Playground may not be the right room

You are outside the U.S. launch or under 18, you want a named casual template rather than a blank prompt, or you were waiting on Unity Spark. Those are limits Google stated or left undescribed — not a review score.

  • When Evonx may not be the right choice

Highly complex 3D, large open worlds, and engine-level control of every rule are outside what Evonx builds. Online multiplayer is not supported. There is no App Store or Google Play package, and no advertised download of the project source. If you need those, an engine — or Playground's multiplayer, where it applies — is the honest pick.

Google Playground questions

What is a sensible Google Playground alternative for creating games?

It depends on the game. Playground fits prompt experiments inside Google's gallery, for adults in the U.S. Evonx fits creators who want a playable casual loop from a template — match-3, parking jam, tower defense, survivor — plus AI art, 3D characters and chat edits. Neither replaces the other for every project.

Can I create a game with AI without Google Playground?

Yes. On Evonx you describe the game in the browser, play it in the live preview, and change it in chat. Building and preview are free on Starter. You do not need a Google account.

Does Evonx work like Google Playground?

Both turn a description into a browser game you can edit by asking. Playground emphasizes open prompts, a community gallery and multiplayer in select genres. Evonx emphasizes gameplay templates, Asset Studio, reskins and mobile-style loops.

What is the difference between Evonx and Google Playground?

Playground is Google's experimental platform, launched 7 October 2026 for users in the U.S. who are 18 or older. Evonx is a game-creation workflow with 29 templates and recorded examples of those loops. Compare the table above before you pick.

Is there a Google Playground option that starts from game templates?

Playground's launch post describes starter prompts you can remix, not a published list of casual templates. Evonx starts from 29 gameplay templates, including match-3, parking jam and tower defense.

Is Google Playground available outside the United States?

Google's launch post says the initial release is for users in the U.S., ages 18 and up. Availability can change. Evonx is a separate product; this page does not claim a country list for it.
