Edit Shopify themes with AI

Edit your Shopify theme with AI — safely, without a developer.

Connect your store with a theme-scoped Theme Access password, describe the change in chat, and watch it on a Shopify development theme before anything goes live. Your storefront stays exactly as it is until you publish — and your theme customizer settings are never overwritten.

Shopify theme customization

Theme customization, from connected store to published change

Editing a live Shopify theme by hand is how storefronts break on a Friday evening. Evonx turns theme development into a safe loop: your theme is imported into a versioned workspace, every change is reviewable on a development theme, and publishing uploads only what changed — with the settings your team saved in the theme editor kept out of harm's way.

Connect with a Theme Access password

Install Shopify's free Theme Access app and hand Evonx a password scoped to themes only — no admin account, no collaborator seat, no access to orders or customers.

Your theme, imported with history

The live theme is mirrored into an Evonx workspace with full version history, so every subsequent edit is a diff you can inspect rather than a mystery.

Edit Shopify theme code in chat

Ask for a new section, a layout change, or a CSS fix in plain language. The AI agent edits the Liquid templates, sections, and assets for you.

Preview on a development theme

Changes render on a Shopify development theme with your store's real products and settings. Your live storefront is untouched while you review.

Customizer settings stay yours

Settings saved in the theme editor — settings_data.json and template JSON — are pulled from the store before every publish and never pushed over.

Diff-based one-click publish

Publishing uploads only the files that changed since the last publish, keeping the update fast and gentle on Shopify's API rate limits.

How it works

Three steps from store to shipped change

01

Connect your store

Install the free Theme Access app in your Shopify admin, generate a password, and paste your store domain and password into Evonx. The live theme is imported automatically.

02

Edit and preview

Describe each change in chat and review the result on a development theme rendered with your real catalog. Iterate until it looks right — nothing is live yet.

03

Publish when ready

One click syncs your customizer settings from the store, then pushes only the changed files to the live theme. Version history records exactly what shipped.

Before you hire a Shopify developer

Do you need to hire a Shopify developer?

Shopify developers and freelance Shopify experts can do anything — at retainer prices and ticket-queue speed, and hiring one is worth it for ground-up builds. But most stores hire for a stream of small code changes the built-in theme editor cannot make. That is the work an AI editor does in minutes, with the same code-level reach.

What merchants edit

The theme edits that usually wait in a ticket queue

Most Shopify theme development is not a redesign. It is a stream of small, revenue-relevant changes — a section here, a product page template there — that stall because customizing Shopify at the code level feels risky. With a development theme preview, none of them have to wait.

Make your first theme edit
  • Sticky add-to-cart bars and buy-box changes on product pages
  • Product page templates for different product types
  • Campaign landing sections and seasonal announcement banners
  • Mobile navigation, spacing, and readability fixes
  • New theme sections instead of yet another app embed
  • Brand refreshes across headers, footers, and typography

Frequently asked questions

Editing Shopify themes with Evonx

Do I need to hire a Shopify developer to edit my theme?+

For most theme changes, no. Sections, product page templates, layout adjustments, and styling are exactly what the AI editor handles — described in chat, previewed on a development theme, published when you approve. Hiring a Shopify developer or a freelance Shopify expert still makes sense for ground-up theme builds and problems that need server-side app logic; for the ongoing stream of edits in between, you no longer need one on retainer.

Do I need to give Evonx admin access to my Shopify store?+

No. Evonx connects with a Theme Access password, generated by Shopify's free Theme Access app. It is scoped to themes only — Evonx never gets admin credentials, a collaborator seat, or access to orders and customer data. The password itself is stored encrypted.

Can my live store break while I am editing?+

No. Every change is previewed on a Shopify development theme — a separate theme created for the editing session. Your live theme is not modified until you explicitly publish, so shoppers never see work in progress.

Will publishing overwrite my theme customizer settings?+

No. The settings your team saves in the Shopify theme editor — settings_data.json, template JSON, and section groups — are synced from the store into the workspace before every publish and are excluded from the upload. Overwriting merchant settings is the classic agency deployment mistake; the workflow is built to prevent it.

Which themes does it work with?+

Any standard Shopify theme structure — the layout, sections, templates, and assets that make up the theme you already run, whether it started life as a purchased theme or custom work. Evonx imports the theme exactly as it exists on your store and edits those files.

What if I already work with a developer or agency?+

They coexist well. The theme lives in a versioned workspace, so every AI-made change is a readable diff a developer can review. Publishes upload only changed files, and a .shopifyignore file in the workspace enforces the same customizer-settings protection for manual CLI pushes.
