Safety

Read this once, and everything else is easier.

Our equipment gets hot, draws real power and, in the case of the roasters, burns things on purpose. These notes apply to every Hearthwell product, and each manual repeats the ones that matter for that model on its first page.

The warnings that matter most

Heat

Group heads, steam wands and roaster drums stay hot for up to thirty minutes after switching off. Use the handles and never reach into the drum.

Electricity

Plug machines into a grounded outlet on their own circuit. Do not use an extension cord, and never run a machine with a damaged cable.

Water

Fill espresso machines with cold, fresh water only, and unplug before you remove the tank. Keep roaster controls dry at all times.

Space

Leave at least 4 inches behind and at either side of a machine, and 24 inches above a roaster's chimney, so heat can leave the room.

Safety questions

Can children use the machines?

Children aged eight and over may use an espresso machine under supervision. Roasters are not suitable for use by children at any age.

What do I do if the breaker trips?

Unplug the machine, wait a minute and reset the breaker with nothing else on the circuit. If it trips again, stop using the machine and contact service.

Is it safe to leave a machine switched on?

Espresso machines switch off after thirty minutes without use. Roasters must never be left running unattended.
