Real weddings

Four weddings, four very different weekends.

Every couple brings a different problem to solve: a guest list that doubled, a venue with no kitchen, a forecast nobody wanted to read. Here is how four of last season's weddings came together, told with the couples' blessing.

Newlyweds in a mountain meadow

Last season

Outdoor dessert table at a garden reception

Priya and Sam · Johns Island

A garden ceremony for 160 guests at a family property with no permanent restrooms or kitchen. We brought in a catering tent, a generator with a silent canopy and a restroom trailer, then hid all three behind a hedge of potted magnolias.

Long dinner table in a hall

Lauren and Chris · the rice mill

Planned almost entirely by video from Chicago. Long tables down the length of the mill, a jazz trio for dinner and an oyster roast on the lawn while the room was turned for dancing.

Couple in a mountain meadow

Mei and Jonah · Blue Ridge elopement

Twelve guests, a ranger permit and a picnic lunch carried up in coolers. Our smallest wedding of the year and one of the most detailed timelines, because sunset on a ridge does not wait.

Hydrangea table centrepieces

Ana and Daniel · harbour dinner

An August evening with a heat index near forty. We moved the ceremony to seven, froze the hand towels, swapped roses for hydrangeas that cope with the heat and kept the dance floor under fans.

Your wedding could be next season's story

We take a handful of couples each month. Ask early if you have a popular spring date in mind.
