Parametric modelling of suspension and steering parts, full drawing packs with tolerances that the workshop can machine from without asking me.
I'm Amara Osei, suspension lead on the Northgate Racing Formula Student team. I model uprights and wishbones in CAD, check them in FEA, then machine and test them before the car goes anywhere near a track. I am looking for a summer placement in vehicle dynamics or chassis design.
Available for a twelve-week placement from June.

Every skill below has a part, a drawing or a test log behind it that I can show you in an interview.

Parametric modelling of suspension and steering parts, full drawing packs with tolerances that the workshop can machine from without asking me.

Printed jigs and test fixtures overnight, so we can check fit on the chassis before committing to aluminium.

Signed off on the manual lathe and mill in the student workshop. I turned the team's rear hub spacers myself this year.
Static and fatigue checks in FEA, compared against strain-gauge data from the rig. I report where the model was wrong.

Moved from a welded steel upright to a machined aluminium one. Saved 420 grams per corner and passed the fatigue rig at twice the expected load. Next time I would design the brake caliper mount in from the start.

Built a pneumatic rig that cycles a wishbone through a lap's worth of loads every four seconds. It caught a cracked rod end before it reached the car.
Simulated ride and damping for three spring rates and compared them with track data from the team car. Top mark in the module.
Measured twelve drivers of different heights and redesigned the pedal box adjustment. The team adopted it for next year's car.
Set up damper potentiometers and wrote the script that turns each run into a one-page report for the drivers within ten minutes.
Vehicle dynamics, materials and manufacturing modules. Dissertation on upright stiffness.
Lead four students on suspension and steering, from concept review to scrutineering.
Ten weeks on a machining cell, writing inspection reports and helping set up a new coordinate measuring machine.
Built a go-kart chassis as the design project, which is how this all started.
“Amara's drawing packs are the only ones our technicians never send back. That is rare at any level.”
“She found an error in our inspection routine during week two and fixed the template for the whole cell.”
“Calm in scrutineering, when everyone else was panicking about a bolt length. She had already checked it.”
Any time from mid-June for twelve weeks. A year in industry is also possible before my final year.
Yes, anywhere in the UK, and Germany or Italy for the right motorsport role.
SolidWorks daily, Fusion for quick fixtures, and some CATIA from a summer course.
Yes. I bring a printed drawing pack and a sectioned part to interviews.
I would love to hear about the team, the car or the product. My CV and drawing pack are one message away.
Tell me a bit about the role and I will send both as PDFs within a day.
