Why the Elmwood

Still projected, still special

Going to the cinema is an evening out, not a click. Here is how we make it one.

Projector lens throwing a beam of light in a dark room

A projector with a pulse

We screen digital prints on a 4K laser projector and, once a month, original 35-millimeter film from a booth built in 1931.

Seats built for stretching out

Our 240 seats were re-sprung and re-covered in red velvet in 2023. Row F has the best sound in the house, and the back row is for couples.

Two striped buckets of buttery popcorn at the cinema

Popcorn made the old way

Popped in coconut oil, tossed in butter from a farm in Shelburne and salted by hand. Add local cider and a bar of Vermont chocolate for the interval.

“My kids saw their first animated film on a big screen here and were stunned. The popcorn is exactly as good as they said.”
J. BrandtParent, Saturday matinee regular
“The Q&A after the preview was the best I have ever attended. The staff clearly love films as much as we do.”
